Taxiway Papa Reopens at Port Moresby International Airport After Critical Repairs

The National Airports Corporation (NAC) has announced the reopening of Taxiway Papa at Port Moresby International Airport following the successful completion of essential repair works.

Taxiway Papa had been closed for nearly two months to allow for critical pavement rehabilitation aimed at strengthening the airside surface and improving overall operational safety. The taxiway officially resumed normal operations today, Friday, 20 February 2026, following the lifting of the relevant Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) yesterday evening. NAC’s Engineering team and Airside Operations worked closely with the contractor throughout the repair period, which began in December 2025. The works were carefully scheduled and executed to ensure minimal disruption while maintaining strict aviation safety standards. The completed upgrades have reinforced the pavement structure, enhanced airside safety, and are expected to significantly reduce parking bay congestion, providing improved efficiency for airline operations at the country’s busiest airport. NAC expressed appreciation to the contractor and all personnel involved behind the scenes for their dedication and commitment to delivering the project safely and on schedule.

The reopening of Taxiway Papa marks another important step in maintaining high operational standards and strengthening aviation infrastructure at Port Moresby International Airport.
